چکیده

The empirical relevance of indeterminacy and sunspot fluctuations has been often questioned on the basis of the implausibly high degrees of increasing returns to scale or unconventional calibrations for the fundamentals required. In this paper we study a one-sector economy with partial cash-in-advance constraint on consumption expenditures, and show how such phenomena are by contrast quite pervasive: They appear for arbitrarily small amplitudes of the liquidity constraint, whatever the specification for the fundamentals is. At the same time we asses the cyclical properties of the model by allowing simultaneously technological and beliefs disturbances and observe that it performs as well as other indeterminate models. ∗We are grateful to Guido Cazzavillan, Jean-Michel Grandmont, Marco Maffezzoli and Alain Venditti for very helpful comments and suggestions. We wish to thank participants to SET 2002 and ESEM 2002 in Venice, T2M 2002 in Evry, and Journée DELTA. Any remaining errors are our own. †Corresponding author. Optimal pricing and ordering policies for perishable products under advance-cash-credit payment scheme

Recently, market globalization and competition have forced companies to find alternative means to boost sales and revenue. The use of the cash flow is increasingly becoming a viable alternative for managers to improve their company’s profitability in a supply chain. In today’s business transactions, a supplier usually asks a manufacturer to pay via the advance-cash-credit (ACC) payment scheme i...

Endogenous Monetary Growth Rules and Determinacy in Cash−in−Advance Models

It is well known that a high degree of relative risk aversion induces equilibrium indeterminacy in cash−in−advance economies. I find that by endogenously adjusting the nominal money supply to output fluctuations, these equilibria can be effectively eliminated. This paper was written while I was a DFG Heisenberg Fellow. I would like to thank the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco for its hosp...

Differential cash constraints, financial leverage and the demand for money: Evidence from a complete panel of Taiwanese firms

This paper studies firms’ demand for money by developing a differential-cash-constraint framework with firms’ entire wage bills requiring cash in advance and a fraction of investment purchases being financed by credits. In addition to conventional scale and opportunity-cost factors, firms’ financial status and profitability are crucial determinants for their money demand behavior. Employing a n...

Indeterminacy of equilibrium allocations in monetary open economies 1

In an open economy, outside money in positive supply does not eliminate the real indeterminacy which arises under uncertainty and incomplete asset markets. If money supply is subject to shocks or is not perfectly credible in all countries, the level of a fixed exchange rate matters. Analogous results obtain in cash in advance models.
